Position Description – Weed Control Trainee_July 2024

HRCC is a single purpose weed authority council for the cities of Blacktown, Hawkesbury, The Hills Shire and Penrith. We undertake weed control and inspection tasks across 3,800km2 and work in both land and aquatic environments.

This is a great opportunity for a school leaver or a person looking to change careers to be paid to study. You will work with HRCC for four days, and attend TAFE one day. All TAFE costs (apart from minor incidentals) will be covered by HRCC.

We are looking for motivated, reliable and trustworthy participants to become a “Weed Control Trainee”. The successful applicants will show aptitude for physical outdoor work, an appreciation of and basic understanding of the local environment and keen ability to follow instruction and receive training. At the end of the traineeship you will have completed a TAFE Cert 3 in Conservation and Ecosystem Management, additionally you will be trained in all aspects of HRCC Biosecurity Weed Control operations. This will mean you will be fully qualified to work in HRCC Operations or enter the weed control and natural resource management industry in a number of different roles. HRCC has had a track record of over 20 successful trainees entering the industry over the past 10 years. Unsuccessful applicants may be placed on an eligibility list for future positions.

Pay range will be between $24,336 to $50,970 + super (12.5%) annually (depending on school level, age and previous work experience) and other entitlements as per the Local Government (State) Award. Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply.
